CamFPD's Wedge® optics technology offers a way of projecting an image into the edge of a display such that it comes out at the front. The essence of the invention is the conversion of angle of edge-injected light into distance along the viewing face. CamFPD owns a portfolio of patents and patent filings which protects this new technology.

Like other projection technologies, Wedge® optics breaks the link between image size and economics. Large format screens, greater than 50 inches on the diagonal, can be easily and cost effectively fabricated. In non-projected display technologies such as LCD and plasma, costs rise inescapably with increasing display size.

The edge projection method enabled by Wedge® optics also offers real benefits over existing front- and rear-projection methods. Front projection requires a separate projector and screen and a darkened viewing environment (e.g. cinema) and rear projection devices (e.g. rear projection TVs) are bulky.
