Scanning backlight

CamFPD has invented and patented a version of the Wedge® technology which will eliminate moving image smear on liquid crystal displays. It works by scanning the angle at which light is injected into the base of the wedge.

Wedge-shaped waveguides are already used to spread the light from a thin fluorescent tube uniformly across the rear of an LCD, but this results in smear problems when showing fast-moving images. Wedge® Optics would allow repeated scanning of the illumination from top to bottom behind the LCD thereby resolving this problem.
